I spoke with I citizen Name/Ex. 6 jyesterday about the soil sampling, j Personal Matters/Ex. 6 I
and buying this property as a long-term investment (retirement) - pTawingT0'l3Cnra a retirement
home (or 2- there are 3-4 lots). He said they were getting it at a very, very low price - pennies
on the dollar b/c the owners really want to sell it. They have signed a contract but it is contingent
on their “researching” the environmental issues and they have 60 days to back out of their
commitment.
I explained our situation regarding soil sampling at the moment - that we are working with the

ED 000552 00001056-00001
local officials but they are concerned about the implications of what will happen if we find
contaminated soils and so we don’t have a consensus yet. He understands a bit about the issue
of heavy metals in the soil. I told him that from the photos (and from my memory of walking the
area where his property is last summer) that it was possible that there might be some
contamination - absence of vegetation and proximity to the Rose-Walsh smelter and the VCUP
action.
I said that we expect at some point to conduct soil sampling but that I wasn’t sure when we
might do it - that it might not even be this season and that when we do conduct soil sampling
that we would sample his property if we had access. He asked about what kind of assistance
might be available if we found contamination in the soils. I said that EPA would not expect them
as a home owner to clean-up the soils but did not commit us to anything specific as to when a
cleanup might occur. I did not mention a SF listing. He seemed satisfied and I told him if he had
any other questions to please call me back.

We might want to put his name & contact infer (ph# & email) on a list to contact if/when we do
initiate soil sampling in Silverton. The property could definitely be suspect.

Hello Miss,
My name is
Citizen Name/Ex. 6
testing in and’arouncf tb"wn."TwouTd'
jare purchasing land in Silverton. I read an article about
love to have the EPA test our land if you are interested. We
have yet to build anything and to me it looks like tailings of some sort are on the property( I will
attach photos.) Would the EPA be interested in testing? Would the EPA be interested in
mitigation if test results require it? Please let me know your thoughts. Along with the photos I
have attached an environmental report that the sellers gave me.
Thank you again.
